Body Lift

CONVENIENTLY LOCATED TO SERVE WASHINGTON, DC

Body LiftOften thought of as an extended or circumferential (i.e., cut all the way around) abdominoplasty, it incorporates several different surgical approaches to re-contouring the area around the waist. It is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the middle and lower abdomen, outer thighs, back, and buttocks, and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. There are a number of different techniques used for a body lift, and Dr. Olding will work with you to determine which option is best for you.

The Body Lift Procedure

There are a variety of body lift techniques from which Dr. Olding will choose the one that suits you best. After the areas that require treatment are chosen, the procedure will begin with the administration of either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation to help you feel comfortable during the surgical process.

Dr. Olding will then proceed by making an incision through which the underlying fat is removed, and tissues are lifted. One of the most popular techniques is the bikini-patterned incision, which tightens the tissues of various areas of the lower body such as the buttock, thigh, groin, waist, and abdomen. Some surgical body lifts may also require you to undergo a liposuction surgery, which results in a much-improved contour.

Once the corrections are made, the incisions are closed by using the deep sutures inside the underlying tissues, along with clips, tapes, and/or skin adhesives. While the final results of a body lift surgery can take up to a few months to appear, some change is immediately visible after the successful completion of the procedure.

What to Expect During Recovery

The body lift is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, although it may require one overnight stay in the hospital. Patients generally return to work and to strenuous activity within a month to six weeks. Scars fade within three months to two years. Results vary by age and weight, but are usually dramatic.

His hands and surgical skills are legendary

I have known Dr. Olding for over 20 years. He has worked on many close to me and myself. He is the most honest, ethical plastic surgeon I know. He doesn’t sugar-coat or tell Ugly Betty she will look like a movie star after he is done and sucks 100 lbs out of her. I refer to him frequently and would highly suggest anyone considering cosmetic surgery should at least get an opinion from him because HE WILL BE HONEST. His hands and surgical skills are legendary.

Patients may experience temporary swelling, soreness, bruising, or numbness. Potential complications include blood clots to the lungs, asymmetry, bleeding, infection, fluid retention, excessive scarring, or necrosis of the skin around the belly button, and blood clots, which may break loose and result in a pulmonary embolism.

During the recovery phase, bandages or dressings are applied to promote the healing of the incisions. Excess blood is drained through thin and small tubes that are placed temporarily under the skin. We’ll prescribed medication in order to address any discomfort you may experience after the surgery. To promote efficient healing, you should only engage in light activities. Short walks are also recommended to keep up the blood flow to all the incision sites. Strenuous physical activities, however, should be avoided.
