Breast Augmentation in Washington DC
CONVENIENTLY LOCATED TO SERVE WASHINGTON, DC
Breast augmentation can increase breast volume, improve symmetry, and restore fullness that may have changed after pregnancy, weight loss, or aging. At The DC Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Michael Olding performs breast augmentation for patients in Washington, DC, using saline or silicone implants selected according to each patient’s anatomy and goals.
Benefits of Breast Augmentation
Patients can enjoy the benefits of breast augmentation, such as:
- Aesthetic Improvement – Breast augmentation enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the breasts under the skilled hands of Dr. Michael Olding. The procedure carefully forms or molds the breasts to a more symmetrical look.
- Restored Breast Symmetry – A notable physical benefit of breast augmentation is its capacity to address and correct asymmetry, ensuring seamless alignment between both breasts. This correction contributes to aesthetic refinement and fosters a sense of physical equilibrium, creating a harmonious appearance.
- Posture and Spinal Alignment – Breast augmentation’s positive impact on posture and spinal alignment adds a layer of physical well-being. The additional volume and support may contribute to better spinal posture, potentially alleviating discomfort.
- Improved Clothing Fit – Beyond aesthetic enhancements, breast augmentation offers practical advantages in improving your clothes fit. The procedure enhances breast volume and shape so that you feel more comfortable in your clothes.
Ideal Candidates for Breast Augmentation
The ideal candidates for breast augmentation generally have:
- Good physical and mental health
- At least 18 years old for saline implants and at least 22 years old for silicone implants
- Stable body weight
- Fully developed breasts
- Realistic expectations
The candidacy for breast surgery also rises when the patients have:
- Smaller breasts than their desired size, volume, and fullness
- Disproportionate or asymmetrical breasts
- Experienced volume loss in their breasts due to childbirth or drastic weight loss
Saline or Silicone Breast Implants?
It is your decision whether to use saline or silicone implants; however, many of our patients choose silicone gel implants due to their similar feel to natural breasts. The implants are inserted either behind the breast tissue or partially or completely under the chest muscles; Dr. Olding will work with you to determine which option is best for you.

Planning Your Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation involves several decisions beyond choosing between saline and silicone implants. During your consultation, Dr. Olding evaluates your existing breast tissue, chest dimensions, skin quality, breast symmetry, and the amount of volume you would like to add.
Implant size and placement can affect breast shape, projection, and overall proportion. Dr. Olding will discuss these factors with you and explain which options may best fit your body. Patients who have significant breast sagging may also need a breast lift with augmentation rather than implants alone.
Reviewing breast augmentation before-and-after photos before your consultation can also help you identify the size and shape preferences you would like to discuss with Dr. Olding.
What to Expect From Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you can return home soon after the procedure is over. Dr. Olding will make strategically placed incisions to limit the visibility of post-surgical marks, and insert the implants into the designated area. Once the necessary corrections are made, he will close the incisions and bandage the surgical area.
Since this is an invasive procedure, you will need to take time off work and certain activities to rest and recover. Patients generally return to work within a week or two. It may take months for scars to fade, but they are usually hidden in the fold beneath the breast.
Patients may experience temporary pain, swelling, bruising, or a change in nipple sensation after the surgery. Potential complications include implant rupture, development of scar tissue, bleeding, infection, or a change in the sensitivity of the nipples.
Capsular contracture or hardening of the breast can occur with a small percentage of the patients and is treated by massage and, if necessary, surgery. Implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a lymphoma associated with a very small percent of textured implants (i.e., rough surface implants). Dr. Olding does not use these textured implants.
