Sagging upper eyelids and puffy under-eye bags can make you appear tired or older than you feel. Male eyelid surgery in Washington, DC addresses these concerns by removing excess skin or fat to refresh the eye area. It helps restore a rested, masculine appearance without overcorrection.
At DC Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Michael Olding brings decades of experience in facial rejuvenation and male aesthetics.
What Is Male Eyelid Surgery?
Male eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) improves the appearance of the upper and/or lower eyelids by removing or repositioning extra skin and fat. It corrects sagging lids, puffiness, and signs of aging around the eyes.
The procedure is planned specifically for male facial anatomy. Men tend to have flatter upper lids and lower-set brows. Surgical adjustments are conservative to maintain a masculine appearance.
Upper eyelid surgery removes loose skin that may cause a heavy or hooded look. Lower eyelid surgery targets under-eye bags caused by fat bulging beneath the skin. Some patients benefit from treating both areas in a single session.
Results are simply terrific
I went to Dr. Olding for upper eyelid reduction (blepharoplasty) after comparing ratings among multiple ratings venues (Angies, Washingtonian, Checkbook, etc.). The surgery was done at GW Hospital and was superb in every way – I felt very well-cared for. Recovery was easy. Results are simply terrific. Dr. Olding was especially helpful relieving my anxiety: he is straightforward, clear, takes the time necessary to explain, and has earned my complete trust.

What to Expect During Male Eyelid Surgery
Before surgery, markings are made and photographs are taken to guide the surgical plan. Anesthesia is then administered.
Upper eyelid surgery involves removing skin and, sometimes, fat through an incision in the natural crease of the eyelid. Muscle may be adjusted if needed.
For the lower lids, fat is either repositioned or removed. When appropriate, this is done through an incision inside the eyelid (transconjunctival). In other cases, a fine incision is placed just below the lashes. Skin tightening or resurfacing may be added to achieve a more natural look.
Sutures are placed to close the incisions, and cold compresses are started immediately. The procedure is outpatient, and someone must be present to take you home. All tissue removal is performed conservatively to avoid hollowing or altering the eye shape.
Male Eyelid Surgery Aftercare and Recovery
Recovery is generally brief and straightforward. Here’s what to expect:
- Days One to Three: Swelling, tightness, and minor oozing. Use cold compresses and keep your head elevated.
- Days Four to Seven: Bruising starts to fade. Sutures are removed around day seven if used.
- Work: Many patients return after one week.
- Exercise: Light walking is allowed early. More strenuous activity may resume after three to four weeks.
- Vision: May be slightly blurry from ointment or temporary dryness.
- Contacts/Makeup: Typically resumed after healing and approval from Dr. Olding.
- Final Outcome: Swelling reduces over 6–12 weeks. Scars fade over time.
Common effects during healing include mild asymmetry, tearing, or tightness. These usually resolve with time. Careful aftercare following male eyelid surgery ensures smooth healing. Follow all instructions to support your recovery.
Benefits of Male Eyelid Surgery
Male eyelid surgery helps men look more rested and alert by reducing drooping lids and under-eye puffiness. It maintains natural masculine features while softening signs of fatigue or aging. In some cases, it can also improve peripheral vision if excess skin is obstructing the field of view. Results are long-lasting, with gradual aging over time that still preserves the surgical improvement.
Male Eyelid Surgery Cost in Washington, DC
The cost of male eyelid surgery depends on the areas treated (upper, lower, or both), the type of anesthesia used, and the surgical complexity.
