LOWER BODY LIPOSUCTION

(lipoplasty)

Procedure:

  • Either standard liposuction with vacuum device or ultrasonic liposuction which "explodes" fat cells creating a liquid which is then suctioned out.
  • Improve body shape by removing exercise-resistant fat deposits with a vacuum device.
  • Dr. Olding always uses tumescence (filling targeted area with saline containing solution with a local anesthetic and epinephrine before liposuction to reduce post-operative bruising and swelling).
  • Common locations for lower-body liposuction include the buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves, & ankles.

In/Outpatient:

  • Outpatient.
  • Extensive procedures may require short inpatient stay.

Side Effects:

  • Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, soreness, burning sensation.
  • Using Tumescent Technique: Temporary fluid drainage from incision sites.

Risks:

  • Asymmetry.
  • Rippling or cellulite of skin.
  • Pigmentation changes.
  • Skin injury.
  • Fluid retention.
  • Excessive fluid loss leading to shock (only in large volume cases).
  • Infection.
  • Bleeding.

Recovery:

  • Back to work: 1 - 2 weeks.
  • Strenuous Activity: 2 - 4 weeks.
  • Swelling and bruising: 1 - 6 months.
  • Use of tumescent technique may decrease post-operative bruising and swelling.

Results:

Permanent (with sensible diet & exercise).
