ABDOMINAL LIPOSUCTION

(lipoplasty)

Procedure:

  • Improve body shape by removing exercise-resistant fat deposits with a vacuum-like device.
  • Can be performed using the ultrasonic technique, in which targeted fat cells are "imploded" creating a solution which is suctioned out.

In/Outpatient:

Outpatient.

Side Effects:

  • Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, soreness, burning sensation.
  • Temporary fluid drainage from incision sites.

Risks:

  • Asymmetry.
  • Rippling or waviness of skin.
  • Pigmentation changes.
  • Skin injury.
  • Seroma (fluid collection).
  • Excessive fluid loss leading to shock (only in large
  • volume liposuction).
  • Infection.
  • Bleeding.

Recovery:

  • Back to work: 1 - 2 weeks.
  • Strenuous Activity: 2 weeks.
  • Swelling and bruising: 1 -3 months.
  • Use of tumescent technique and ultrasonic technique may decrease post-operative bruising and swelling.

Results:

Permanent (with sensible diet & exercise).
