BREAST REDUCTION

(reduction mammaplasty)

Procedure:

Removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer

In/Outpatient:

Outpatient.

Side Effects:

Temporary soreness, swelling, change in nipple sensation, bruising.

Risks:

  • Infection.
  • Fluid accumulation.
  • Injury to the skin.
  • Rippling or bagginess of skin.
  • Asymmetry.
  • Pigmentation changes (may become permanent if exposed to sun).
  • Excessive scarring if tissue was cut away.

Recovery:

  • Back to work: 1 - 2 weeks.
  • Physical contact with breasts: 2 - 4 weeks.
  • Fading of scars: Several months to a year or more

Results:

Changes may occur do to gravity, pregnancy, aging, and weight.
