BREAST ENLARGMENT

(augmentation mamaplasty)

Procedure:

Enhance the size of breasts using inflatable implants filled with saline (salt-water), or with silicone gel implants.

In/Outpatient:

Outpatient.

Side Effects:

  • Temporary pain.
  • Temporary soreness, swelling, bruising, change in nipple sensation (increased or decreased).

Risks:

Problems include:

  • Rupture
  • Capsular contracture (the formation of scar tissue around the implant), may cause the breast to feel tight or hard.
  • Bleeding Infection Increase or decrease in sensitivity of nipples or breast skin, occasionally permanent.
  • Mammography is more difficult and requires special technique.

Recovery:

  • Back to work: 1 - 2 weeks.
  • Physical contact with breasts: 3 - 4 weeks.
  • Fading of scars: Several months to a year or more.

Results:

  • Initial swelling resolves in several weeks.
  • The larger the implant the more unnatural the result.
